How big is a perler bead pattern from a photo, and how many beads?

Updated · Photo Pattern Maker

Each midi bead is 5 mm, so a pattern 40 beads wide is 20 cm (8 inches) and needs four square pegboards. Photos need about 40 to 58 beads across to stay recognisable; cartoons and logos work from 29.

Perler, Hama or Artkal?

Pick the brand you have before making the pattern: each has its own colors and codes, and the bead count is per color in that brand.

Steps

  1. Pick a photo with one clear subject. Bold, simple pictures work best: a pet's face, a logo, a cartoon. Crop close to the subject; 29 to 58 beads wide keeps it to one to four boards.
  2. Upload it on the photo to perler bead pattern page and choose the width and how many colors. The preview updates as you change them.
  3. Get the full pattern: After that the full pattern is $1.99 on its own, or from $0.20 a pattern with credits ($4.99 for 15). Credits never expire.
  4. Print the PDF (A4 or Letter): the chart with symbols, the color key with codes and counts, and what to buy.
