How to turn a photo into a C2C crochet graph

Each square on the graph is one C2C tile in a Red Heart Super Saver color, marked with a symbol. The written part starts at the bottom-left corner and gives each diagonal's colors in the order you work them, and the key counts the tiles of each color and estimates its yards and skeins.

Best for
A pet, family or house photo made into a C2C blanket, worked from a graph and a diagonal-by-diagonal color list instead of counting squares off a picture.
You need
One photo from your phone or computer. No app or account needed.
You get
A PDF to print on A4 or Letter with the C2C graph, every diagonal's colors in order, and the key with tile counts, yards and skeins per color, plus a PNG of the whole graph.
Colors
Red Heart Super Saver, 2 to 12 colors.
Sizes
A tile is about 1.1 in across in worsted weight yarn, so 40 tiles wide makes about 44 in, 60 about 67 in and 80 about 89 in. The height follows your crop.
Confetti
A tile that matches none of its four neighbors is folded into the color around it, unless it stands out like the light in an eye. In the golden retriever sample above, 0.03% of the tiles are lone (about 1 in 3,600).
Same photo
Switch the stitch, or the craft to Cross Stitch, Needlepoint, Perler Bead, Mini Perler Bead, Filet Crochet, Knitting, LEGO Mosaic or Diamond Painting, to make another pattern from it with no new upload.
Price
The color preview is free for everyone, your first full pattern is free with no sign-up, and a new account gets 5 more free. Then $1.99 a pattern, or from $0.20 with credits.

Which photos work best

C2C tiles are big, so a 40-tile graph holds a face, not a crowd. Crop close, keep 4 to 8 colors and choose a photo with a plain background.

C2C Crochet Graph Maker: questions

How do I follow the diagonals?

Start in the bottom-left corner: diagonal 1 is a single tile. Odd diagonals are written bottom to top and even ones top to bottom, the way you turn your work, each with its colors in order and how many tiles of each. Bold lines every 10 tiles on the graph help you keep your place.

Can the blanket be a rectangle?

Yes. Crop the photo to the shape you want and the graph keeps it. The diagonals grow until they reach the shorter side, stay that long, then shrink, so the written list already shows where you stop increasing on one side.

How much yarn does a C2C blanket take?

About 1 yard of worsted weight yarn per tile, plus 10% extra: a 60 by 60 graph is about 3,960 yards in all. The key gives yards and skeins of Red Heart Super Saver for each color.

C2C or single crochet?

A C2C tile is about an inch, so a blanket works up fast but the picture is blockier. Single crochet (a graphgan) fits about 4 times as many squares into each inch across and shows more detail. Switch Stitch to single crochet to compare the two previews.

Is it free?

For a first project, yes. The color preview is free for everyone, your first full pattern is free with no sign-up, and a new account gets 5 more free. After that the full pattern (PDF chart with symbols, color codes, counts and the shopping list) is $1.99 on its own, or from $0.20 a pattern with credits (15 for $4.99).

Do I need an account?

No. Pick a photo: your first pattern is free without one, and after that you can pay for just the pattern you want. Patterns stay in My patterns on this browser. Sign in with Google or email for 5 more free patterns, to keep patterns on any device and to buy credit packs or plans.

What do I get?

A PDF you can print on A4 or Letter: the chart with a symbol in every square, bold lines every 10 squares, row and column numbers, split over pages for big designs; the color key with brand codes and counts; what to buy; and the finished size. Plus a PNG of the whole chart. Download them again any time from My patterns.

Will the chart be full of confetti?

No. A square that matches none of its four neighbors is folded into the color around it unless it stands out, like the light in an eye, and two shades are mixed only in smooth gradients. In the 10 sample patterns on this site, 0.02% to 0.7% of the squares are lone. The free preview shows every square in its color, so you can check yours before paying.

Can I use the same photo for another craft?

Yes. Pick another craft in the generator and the preview redraws from the same photo, with no new upload: Cross Stitch, Needlepoint, Perler Bead, Mini Perler Bead, Crochet, Filet Crochet, Knitting, LEGO Mosaic, Diamond Painting. One credit makes one pattern of any craft.

Is it a kit, a pattern shop or AI art?

No. It makes a printable pattern from your own photo: it has no ready-made designs and sells no floss, thread, beads, yarn, bricks or drills (the PDF lists what to buy). The chart is computed square by square from your photo's colors, not drawn by an AI image model. DMC, Perler, Hama, Artkal, Red Heart Super Saver and LEGO are trademarks of their owners, who don't make or endorse this site.

Is my photo private?

Your photo is shrunk to 600 pixels on your own device before it is sent, and only you can see it and your patterns. Photos are deleted automatically within 30 days, and you can delete them, your patterns or your account at any time.

What if the pattern isn't right?

Change the size or number of colors and look at the preview again before paying. If your first paid pattern still isn't right, email us within 7 days for a full refund.

Do credits expire?

No. Credits from packs never expire; one credit makes one pattern of any craft and size.

Can I cancel a plan?

Yes, in one click under My patterns. It doesn't renew, and the credits you have stay.

How do I pay?

Card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through a secure hosted checkout. We never see your card number.

Can I sell what I make?

You can sell the finished pieces you make from your own photos. The pattern file is for your own use. Questions: support@photopatternmaker.com.
